Statement regarding KLBC News Coverage

In response to a recent CTV News Kitchener news segment that featured a jobsite that Jackman Construction is working on, we would like to clarify the environment in which this story has arisen, as well as detail the actions Jackman, VIVE, and the City of Kitchener have already taken to rectify this situation.

“To reiterate Jackman’s position on the matter of the underground water line that was damaged during shoring install in 2021 at the Kitchener Lawn Bowling Club (KLBC), we had capped the severed end that crossed over the property line, and instructed the KLC at the time that they would need to consult a plumber to reroute the misdirected line. Further, we met this summer with the KLBC and the City of Kitchener to discuss the ongoing water leak that had not been addressed, and had now started to leak due to neglect and frost damage from the previous winter. We further dug out the line to the point of frost damage and recapped the line in an effort of good faith that this issue would be addressed by a plumber retained by the KLBC. We are currently in the process of restoring the surface grading and plantings between the KLBC and our site as per the site plan agreement with the City of Kitchener and will be removing access to the grounds once the chain link fencing is back in place,” says Shawn Kroeplin, Construction Manager for Jackman Construction.

“We are restoring their property as per our City approved plans, and the owner of VIVE asked us to get some quote to restore their irrigation out of good faith to our neighbours,” says Jackman Construction President, Eric Jackman.

The developer, VIVE Development says: “We have also been in communication with the KLBC team about the challenges they have faced due to their plumbing bleeding over the property line, and have tasked our construction manager, Jackman, to tender a third party to make the necessary repairs and restore the irrigation. This is underway, and we will continue to keep our neighbours in the loop as next steps are solidified. We look forward to our continued support of the KLBC and their athletes as they head into their next season in 2023.”

Jackman Construction has not only taken the necessary steps to ensure that the misplaced line can be repaired, but is actively searching for further solutions, along with the Developer & the City of Kitchener, to restore their irrigation system.

While we can appreciate the frustration and inconvenience this misplaced and broken water line has caused the KLBC, their allegations that we have yet to establish a solution or offer any assistance in instigating a repair is unwarranted, however, we will continue to forge forward and continue do our due diligence to ensure that all parties are satisfied at the completion of the project.
